Chapter -1-

It's funny how life sometimes runs on coincidences. Run into an old friend, catch up, and realize how much you miss them, or end up somewhere with someone, who later turns out to be the most important someone. I truly believe hardships build the person that you will become; it paves the way to a stronger individual.
In my story, I have stumbled upon many hardships, some include someone special who challenged me and overall made me a better person, and many others that I thank god I went through. I’ve had my ups and down as I'm sure you all have, and they have made me stronger.  So, what is love you ask? Let's find out.

----

I wrote down the last word on the last high school test I’ll ever take. I couldn’t bottle in the joy! I’m finally done! I’m no longer a senior; I’m no longer in high school! I put my pen down, and quickly made sure I didn’t leave out any questions with the excitement of it being the last day.

‘3alia runs into class and screams:“WE’RE FREEEEEE!!!!” LOL she’s hilarious, I love her! <3 ‘3alia is one of my friends from the other class.

We signed our names, then Noura, Anoud, and I headed out!

Noura:” Yalla banat nsalim w nmshi 3shan swagi ynt’6r bara”

We said good-bye to all the teachers, and thanked them for a wonderful year full of making them crazy!

Anoud:” ERF3III EL 9OOOT”

Wallahi ya a’3la 3omri fi 3yooni malk mtheel, tsawi elroo7 t’3la w tkoon 3nha bdeeeeel

We all started singing along and it was a beginning of a beautiful day!

We went out to eat at uptown, but I had to get back early to finish packing because I’m leaving tonight.

Noura:”Haa Lama everything set for tonight?”

Me:” Laa walla abd t5yli I’m not even half way done madrii aish m6l3ni m3kom”

Anoud:” Mo mn jdk Lama! Esh rayk njii nsa3dk? We don’t have anything else to do tara.”

Me:”Yes, please!"

Noura:”E7na elyom jm3a b beet jdti abd ma agdr as7b!”

Me:” 3adii bss mrii 3alay slmi gabl la amshi okay?”

Noura:”of course!”

We finished eating and Noura left and Anoud came back with me.

As soon as I walked in to the house

Mama:” zeen jeeti! Yalla omii warak ktheer ashya2 gabl elsafra, glt l Diana td5l lk pile elashya2 eli tbeenha blshn6a, el7een entii bss kmli elbagiii"

Me:”Ya 7obii lk mama. Enshalla b5l9 asr3 l2n 3noud m3i br'6o fa sa3a w n9 blktheer”

Slmo 3ala b3’6 even though mala da3i because Anoud is like my sister, we’re very close.

Even though my mom really cares I’m not first on her priority list. I know this might sound weird because all mothers treat their children equally, and she does don't get me wrong, but I still know that I’m not the first priority and this point will clear up throughout the story.

I’m the youngest among 3, the eldest is my brother Khalid, and Basma is the middle child. I have a very close relationship with Khalid, but not so close to Basma.

Khalid is 21, tall around 185 maybe? And he has a fit but not muscular body. Malam7a 7ada, 7n6iii moo aby’6 wla asmr, and very handsome in my opinion.

Basma is 19 kind of looks like me but an older, darker version. Samra shway, a6wl mniii, straight brown hair, and beautiful face and body.

We went up to my room and started arranging the toiletries, make-up, and so on. Surprisingly, we finished very quickly and it was still 12, and my flight wasn’t until 8.

We decided to log on to the camp’s website and look around to see what I should sign up to, instead of lining up in the queue of the class stands over there.

Anoud:” ALLAHWANASA! Fii an art class”

Me:”Meh, I’m not that into art you know me.”

Anoud:”Ee bes ma y’6r enk you develop an artsy touch shwaya.”

Me:”Ee I guess you’re right. So, Hiking, Art, and writing class, aish br'6oo?”

Anoud:” e33 ta5theen writing b summer? mo 9a7ya! Mos6afa?”

Me:”I enjoy writing, sabeel tafree’3 msha3r wa a7asees.”

Anoud:” ya 7yatii yalli shayla ham elkoun 3la galbk.”

Me:” Kli zg.”

I guess now is about time to introduce myself, and my friends.

My name is Lama and I’m 17. I’m average height a little bit on the short side 159 cm, thin but curvy. I have long brown wavy hair, and bee'6a.

Anoud is 18, tall, tanned skin, sh3rha curly 5shn, jsmaha 6bee3y not thin, and not fat and beautiful.

Noura is 18, short, bee'6a, long golden brown hair, and kind of on the chubby side but isn’t fat at all. She has a baby face.

We goofed around and watched a movie talked until it was around 4. I took a shower and got ready.

Mama:”LAAAMAA YALLAAAA O5OOK YNT’6RK BL SYARA.”

“JAYA.”

I hugged Anoud so tight, and told her that I’d miss her! Noura couldn’t come say goodbye she got stuck in traffic and I was already late.

I said goodbye to mama and baba and basma and left.

D5loo the bags w rkbt el syara, and I hugged Khalid.

Khalid:” haaa mt7msaaaa for your last year at camp?”

Me:” Uff Khalid la t’6yg 9adrii I can’t believe I can’t go again next year.”

Khalid:” La 3ady you can go bss bykoon 7g kbar o not as fun.”

Me:”bstmt3 b kl l7’6a enshalla.”

We listened to music and talked the whole way to the Bahrain airport.

Surprisingly, we got there ahead of time. I got my boarding pass and put my bags in luggage and I still had an hour and half to spare!

Me:”Shokraaan Khalid! <3 I’m going to miss you so much!”

Khalid:” o ana km lama 3ndy? Bshtag lk akthr 7beebti. Entabhi 3la nfsk Lama. I heard a lot of guys joined this year w entii t3rfeen keef 3yalna 3shaani deeri balk w don’t get too involved w 5li klamk rasmi okay omii?”

Me:” Ee ma 3leek, you know me. O tamr amr”

Khalid:”ma yamr 3leek 3do, Yalla 7beebti lama ana bmshi. Take care”

I have an hour and a half, what will I do? My stomach started growling as if it was saying “I’m still here”.

So I headed over to McDonalds and ordered a McChicken meal. I got my order and sat down. It was very crowded, but I managed to get a table on the corner.

I started going through twitter, path, and check in on foresquare you know the drill.

“Lw sm7tii”

I looked up and answered while there was still food in my mouth.

Me:”Mmmm”

He smiled. I realized how stupid I looked and quickly swallowed.

Me:”i7m, hala?”

Him:” I’m sorry lo at3ada 7doodii, but can I join you? Mafii mkan ajls”

Me:”ehmmm, ummm.. I was about to leave a9lnn! You can have it” LIAR.

Him:”Akeed? There’s no rush I can wait for you until you're done”

Me:”La laa I’m sure!”

I took my tray and left. I threw the massive amount of food left est’3ferallah and walked out of McDonald’s.

He was very attractive. I don’t mean in a model kind of way, no I mean kaan jameeel yjthb jamala mashalla.

“way to go Lama, y3ni kan sweetiii radat f3l tfshl akthr? :D”

Why am I such a spaz when it comes to guys? Ufff.

I went to the gate because I don’t have anything better to do. I put my headphones in and tuned the world out.

I fell asleep I guess? Because the next thing I know the guy at the gate woke me up and told me that it was the final call.

I quickly boarded, and got into the plane. As I started walking to my seat, a familiar face starting clearing into my sight.

When I got to my seat I noticed that I had the window seat, and guess who was next to me? The guy from McDonalds. Remember how I told you my life is a trail of coincidences? Well, this is one the first one.

I sat down, and started thinking whether or not I should ask him to switch seats. I don’t know why, but I refuse to sit next to the window; it terrifies me for some reason. After 10 minutes of discussing it with myself, I decided I would ask the flight attendant instead mabii y7snii atmeel7 3laih.

Me: “Excuse me miss, can you please find me another seat that’s not next to the window?”

Flight Attendant: ”Why? Is there something wrong with your seat?”

Me: ”Umm, No. but I can’t sit next to the window.”

FA: “I’m sorry mam there’s nothing I can do, the plane is full”

Him:” 3adii you can switch with me I don’t mind”

Me: ”Umm.. akeed?”

He let out high a smile “Yes akeed”

Me: “Maraaa shookran”

How nice of him!

I put my earphones in, and started writing in my journal.

I don’t know how, but I fell asleep again. When I woke up it was dark and the whole plane was asleep. I checked the clock on the screen, and I have been asleep for four hours. He was still awake and he was watching a movie. I looked around, and I noticed that I was covered with a blanket, and my journal was put away in the front pocket of the seat. Hmm...Who covered me?

I plugged in my huge headphones and started going through the movie list. You can pretty much call me a movie “fanatic” so I was pretty much on track with all the movies. I’ve watched almost everything, and the ones that I didn’t watch didn’t appeal to me. I closed the screen and took out my phone and started playing candy crush, and listening to music.

He tapped on the corner of the seat, and I looked at him.

He let out a laugh: “haha 9ar lii sa3a ma tsm3een?”

Me: ”La walla”

Him: “Asef bs ellgafa mg63tnii, leeh ma tbeen tjlseen next to the window?”

Me: “haha, it’s stupid walla.”

Him: “we all have our stupid things, 3adii goolii wdi a3rf.”

Me:”Do you remember the first Final Destination movie?”

Him:”ee?”

Me:”Well, remember lama el plane caught on fire o awl nass 6a7o elii jhat elshobak.”

Him:” Ee bss klhm matoo at the end.”

Me:” I told you it was stupid.”

Him:”haha it’s not that it’s stupid, it just doesn’t make sense. They all died it’s a plane crash.”

Me:”I know. You asked why and I told you, it doesn’t have to make sense”

Him:”Haha 5la9 okay la tz3leen”

I directed my sight toward my phone and kept playing.

Him:” ana Saud btw.”

I smiled while still looking at my phone.

Him:” Ma wdk tsharkeena esmk?”

“Lama”

Saud:” beautiful name”

I smiled.

Saud: “Wow it’s hard to keep a conversation going with you.”

I smirked and looked at him: ”It’s not. I just don’t want to converse”

He laughed: “5feeft dam.”

I laughed along.

Saud: “So, what were you writing?”

Me: ”My journal”

Saud: ”Busy life?”

Me: “Not really, just full of drama. I like to keep track of my memories and write them down so I never lose them.”

Saud: “How about pictures?”

Me: “Pictures are great too, but it’s not the same for me. I live through the words.”

Saud: ”Intriguing.”

Me: “What is?”

Saud: “You.”

I looked down to hide the blushing of my cheeks, and turned on music to avoid answering him back.

He fixed up his pillow, set the chair on the sleep mode, and went to sleep.

I got bored with this stupid level so I decided to watch friends, and fell asleep after an episode or two.

I woke up as they were announcing that we were landing.

Saud:”Mashalla 3leek shklk shb3tii noom.”

I didn’t want to look at him because I know I looked like shit. Uff, I win b ja2zat elwajh elmfg3.

I got my bag and headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

----

I arrived a day before camp starts, so my parents had planned that I was going to stay with my cousin Mishael until tomorrow.

The airlines car dropped me off at her apartment building, and she greeted me at the door.

Mishael: “LAAAAAMAAAA!!!! YA KALBA I MISS YOU SO MUCH!”

Me: “I miss you so much more wallah!!!!!!!!!”

She helped me with my bags and we went up to her apartment.

Mishael is 24, she studies her masters here in the US. She’s very smart and responsible she got a b3tha and she’s a beautiful person inside and out, truly! She’s short, 3ady jsmaha, 7n6yah, and has black wavy hair.

She lost her mother (my aunt) at an early age and pretty much raised her self, because her father used to work a lot. My mother treated her like her own, but it still wasn’t the same no matter how hard we tried. I respect her, she is a great role model!

Mishael: “Sooooo!! How’s everything and everyone? I miss everyone so much!!! Specially 5altii Hanaaa!!”

Me:” wallah klna tamam o omii tslm 3leek 7ata hii wlhaana maraaa!”

We started talking and catching up. We had dinner, and then I went to sleep. I have no Idea why but I woke at 5 am.

I headed to the kitchen and made me some tea, and yes I’m a tea-a-holic.

I sat outside in the balcony and enjoyed the fresh cold air.

I wanted to thank Mishael for having me so I made her breakfast.

Mishael: “Lama 7obbii you shouldn’t have! Entii el ‘6eefa.”

Me: “I wanted to thank you it’s the least I could do.

Mishael: “Yalla 5lna nakl w b3deen goomi ejhzi w awdeek elcamp.”

Me:”okay.”

I pulled my hair up, wore skinny jeans and a white top, put on a little perfume and I’m ready to go!

My heart started beating as the camp sign started appearing! I missed my camp friends so so much! Most of them live in Riyadh and some of them are from Jeddah, so I never get to see them.

I kissed Mishael and thanked her. She told me to call her if I needed anything. She’s so sweet.

                               -------

We arrived. I took my bags and waved good bye.

“YA FAR” A voice from behind me screamed.

I turned around and it was Faisal. He calls me far because I’m tiny and I like to eat.

“FAAAAISAAAAAAAL!!!!! Long time no see yaa 5aaysss”

He high-fived me; this was our idea of a hug.

Faisal is 18, average height for a guy, kind of on the muscular side, tanned, brown hair (lighter than mine), and very funny. We bicker about everything and he never stops teasing me. We’ve been friends since we were 13.

There was a time long ago that I had a crush on him and I never knew if the feeling was mutual.

Jenna and Reem joined us!

Me:” The whole gang! I miss you guys so much!”

Jenna is from Jeddah and Faisal and Reem are from Riyadh.

Jenna is 16 chubby, short and has curly brown-dirty blond hair.

Reem is 18, tall, bonyat’ha 3ree’6a but she’s not fat, and she has black thick hair.

“We miss you too!”

This is happiness. I get to spend 6 weeks with fun people who I love.

Jenna: “Yalla let’s get you settled in and quickly go sign up for classes!”

Me:” I already signed in to three; writing, art, and hiking, but I want to sign into the classes you guys are in.”

N’6am elcamp you get four elective classes and you can choose any four, but fii km class ejbarii l kl el camp students.

Faisal: “Haha writing, no surprise there ya shakespear.”

Me: “Shut up.”

Faisal: “I’m just messing around with you, I’m in hiking”

Me: “Yay, and what about you guys what have you signed up to?”

Jenna: “Art, English literature bss. I’m going to sign up to hiking with you guys”

Reem: “3ady enii ma sjlt l wala shay still?”

Faisal: “5ala9 yalla come on both of you 3shan nsjl w n5l9 mn hl z7ma.”

We decided that each one of us would stand in a queue of each class and sign each other up.

“Hey there stranger.” A familiar voice behind me.
