Chapter -6-

We got back to the camping site, and the tents were set up.

Me: “Look who I found stalking me.”

They laughed.

Saud holding the bag of wood: “Where do you want this?”

Reem: “Anywhere is fine."

Jenna: “I don’t think you guys met. Turki this is Saud, and Saud this is Turki. He’s Faisal’s roommate.”

Turki: “Turki AlFlani.”

Saud: “w eln3m. Saud AlFlani.”

Turki: “Ma 3leek zood.”

Saud: “Well, I better get back to my tent. 3fwn btw.”

I chuckled: “Shokrn.”

I wanted to know where his tent was but I was too shy to ask. Maybe we should’ve invited him to stay? No. I don’t know.

We all sat by the fire and shared stories.
We were playing the question game.

Reem: “Afshl shy 9ar lk with your parents there, go!”

Turki: “Ummmm…. My ex called and I answered and the call went on speaker.”

We all laughed.

Jenna: “Ouch gweya. My turn! Faisal, have you ever been in love?”

Faisal: “Hell no.”

Jenna: “Leh kitha ent mafi romanceya.”

I was thinking about when he told me about his crush, and what Saud told me. Even though I'm positive that Faisal doesn't love me, why does he like to act like he doesn’t care about anything?

Faisal: “Ee ma feeni wsh 3leek. Far!”

I was burning my marshmallow, and I looked up: “N3m.”

Faisal: “Na3ama trfsk enshalla. Worst thing you’ve ever done?”

Me: “Hmmm… broke my brother’s phone and hid it.”

Faisal: “Kafoo walla ma yjii mnk.”

5zeetaa.

Me: “Kil zg. Bandar! Your guilty pleasure?”

Bandar sighed: “Justin Bieber songs.”

We all burst out laughing: “NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!”

Jenna: “Don’t laugh at the Biebz.”

Bandar was actually funny and entertaining. I always thought he was kind of a dork and weird.

Bandar is very tall, skinny, and has very dark black hair. Mamloo7, and has a nice beard.

Bandar laughed: “Turki! Ever kissed a girl?”

Turki said with shame: “Umm... ee.”

Faisal laughed: “93ba wa7d eb riyadh ygolk la 3la this question.”

Does that mean that Faisal has kissed a girl before?

Me: “Kissing kissing? As in, on the mouth kissing?”

Faisal laughed again: “Ee ajl elkiss ween btkoon.”

Turki broke the awkward silence: “Reem! Celebrity crush?”

Reem put her hand on her heart: “Channing Tatum.”

Turki laughed: “6b3n, every Saudi girl.”

Jenna: “Law sm7t every girl in the world.”

We kept playing through the night until like 1 or something. One by one they got sleepy and got into their tents.

Faisal: “I think I’m gonna head in. Tbeeni askr el nar?”

Me: “La I think I’ll stay for a little longer.”

Faisal: “Okay.”

I sat there catching up on writing in my journal. I’ve been slacking lately and haven’t written a lot in it.

I wrote for like an hour and a half. When I finally finished, I took a picture of the sky with
Reem’s polaroid camera.

Saud: “I thought pictures weren’t your thing.”

I dropped the camera and my journal: “YA KALB 5R3TNY.”

He laughed.

Me: “Ktbt bs b’3eet a9wr the sky. It looks beautiful."

Saud: “Leeh 9a7ya? it’s almost 3.”

Me: “Leeh ent 9a7ii it’s almost 3? o leeh jeet hina?”

Saud: “Mdrii ma gdrt anam glt ajii ashofkm.”

Me: “Nshbaa. Kl a7ad nam a9ln.”

It's like he doesn't hear me when I insult him.

Saud: “So I see. 3adi ag3d?”

Me: “Sure.”

Saud: “Keef bt97een bkra mbkr.”

Me: “3adi. I don’t like sleeping.”

His eyes widened: “What?”

Me: “Ee, y3nii I only like the dreaming part of sleeping other than that I don’t see what all the fuss is about.”

Saud: “Ensana ‘3reeba entii. Sleep is joy, are you kidding me?”

Me: “I’d rather just lie there and think.”

Saud: “Think about what?”

Me: “I don’t know, stuff.”

Saud smiled: “Hmm... Okay."

We sat there quiet for a couple of minutes.

Saud: "Tell me something you're afraid of."

Me: “Hmm… mdrii lw it's a fear.. but sometimes I feel like I'm the only one left.”

Saud: “What do you mean?”

Me: “The way I see the world, I sometimes feel like I'm the only one left who wants the things
I want. Y3ne values have changed, and everything has changed.
I still want the same things I used to want as a kid. Love, marriage, family, but that doesn't seem to exist anymore and that scares me.”

He was looking at me and his face didn't give away what he was thinking.

I felt like I was rambling on, so I quickly followed what I said with: "Ahh, ma 3leek mnii. Klamii mo mfhoom 99% of the time."

He just kept looking at me, and finally said: "No."

I was confused, what does he mean no?

He stayed quiet for a few seconds then said: "No, I'm loving this. I like knowing what goes on in that brain of yours.”

I smiled. It made me happy that he wanted to listen to me.

It was freezing. I rubbed the palm of my hands on my shoulders.

Saud: “Brdana?”

Me: “Ee.”

He took off his jacket and got up and put it on my shoulders.

I started taking off the jacket: “La la Saud you’ll get cold.”

He put it back on my and his hand, touched mine.

Saud: “Agool bss.”

He put it back on me and secured it from the front to make sure it covered me well.

Me: “Shkran.”

While looking at the river he said: “3fwn.”

We sat there quiet for a couple of seconds, and then he said: “Can I ask you something personal?”

Me: “Ummm... okay.”

Saud: “Have you ever been in a relationship?”

Me: “You’re right, that is personal.”

Saud: “Not fair.”

I smiled: “No.”

He had a look of relief on his face.

Saud: “Wla mara?”

Me: “Wla mara.”

He smiled and said: “Good.”

Why is that good? What does he mean by good?

I raised an eyebrow: “Why do YOU care?”

He smiled: “Just because.”

Me: “Just because what?”

He looked straight at me and said: “Because I really like you Lama.”

I felt my heart beating out of my chest, but on the outside, I showed no sign of “tarani momkn amoot mn el5aga” what-so-ever.

While our eyes were still locked: “Well, I don’t.” and then I looked away.

He smiled.

I smiled back and our eyes met again.

We talked a bit more and he went back to his tent.

He forgot his jacket and I fell asleep in it. Ahhhhhh! <3

This is the start of something beautiful...

----

"Sometimes you meet someone, its so clear that the two of you, on some level, belong together, as lovers or as as friends or as family, or something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you're in love or you're partners in crime. You meet those people throughout your life out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. I don't know if that makes me believe in coincidence, fate, or sheet blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something." -Unknown
